The Icons of Campbeltown series is a tribute to the community that carried Glen Scotia through history. Its inspiration is the Campbeltown Market Cross — a meeting point for celebration and storytelling, its stone face carved with saints and beasts — and each release recalls a tale of that shared spirit.
Release No.2 draws on the figure of St Michael, supported by an army at his back, slaying a fire-breathing dragon. Ravenous fire was a recurring theme of Campbeltown’s Victorian heyday, laying waste to several of the town’s distilleries. On 17 December 1899, Glen Scotia and members of the community fought a fierce blaze at Dalintober distillery and spared it an early end. There are no living saints or dragon slayers in Campbeltown — only a community that endures against the odds through its prevailing unity. In celebration of the tale, our Master Blender has selected this medium-peated 14 year old single malt, finished for six months in ex-Barolo red wine casks to draw out a character of fiery red fruits. Smoke runs through layers of fruit, spice and a subtle maritime salinity, leaving no question as to which distillery this limited release comes from.
