Kilchoman Rockside 11 Year Old Single Farm Single Malt 0.7l 46%

Rockside 11 is the first age statement expression in Kilchoman’s core range, distilled from barley grown on the farm over a decade ago and matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The Rockside release is Islay’s only Single Farm Single Malt — grown, malted, peated, distilled, matured and bottled on Rockside Farm itself, on the north-west coast of the island. It succeeds the annual 100% Islay series, giving that founding idea a permanent place in the range rather than an edition number.

Where Machir Bay and Sanaig are heavily peated at 50ppm, Rockside is built on a lighter, more barley-forward style at 20ppm, allowing the subtler characteristics of the Kilchoman spirit to come through. The palate carries light smoke, tropical fruit, toffee apple, salted caramel, sweet citrus, walnut and mixed spices. It is bottled non-chill filtered and without added colour, at 46%, the label carrying the signatures of founder Anthony Wills and distillery manager Robin Bignal.
