Description
A Sangiovese-led Tuscan red with Merlot, Alicante and Petit Verdot, drawn largely from Ruffino’s La Solatia estate in the hills at Monteriggioni, near Siena. No oak: the wine rests in temperature-controlled stainless steel until bottling, and it is made to be drunk young.
Nose Bright ruby with purple reflections. Fresh, crisp cherry, plum and marasca sour cherry, with a clear floral lift of violet.
Palate Medium-bodied with lively grip — vinous, easy-drinking, the Sangiovese showing sweetness and harmony alongside its fragrance.
At the table Lightly aged salumi, meat pasta, white meats, vegetarian dishes and robust fish soups. Serve at 16-18°C, or lightly chilled in warm weather.
Ruffino was founded near Pontassieve in 1877 by the cousins Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, and was among the first Tuscan houses to build an international market for Chianti.
