Description
Taiwan’s first whisky distillery, matured in the subtropical heat of Yilan County where casks give up their character in a fraction of the time they would in Scotland. Principally American ex-bourbon with a proportion of Spanish Oloroso.
Nose Clean, elegant and floral — the distillery cites butterfly orchid — with honey, tropical fruit and mango in particular, pear drop, vanilla, coconut and a suggestion of chocolate.
Palate Sweet mango juice with a spicy complexity and gentle warmth, creamy richness over spiced barley and gentle oak.
Finish Medium, oily and citrus-tinged, with allspice and fragrant pear skin.
Built by the King Car Group and distilling since 2005, Kavalan draws meltwater from Snow Mountain. This flagship took Gold, Best in Class at the 2011 International Wine and Spirit Competition.
