Filled in 1973 and then left alone for half a century.
Distilled in Loch Lomond’s distinctive Straight Neck stills in 1973, this spent its first decades quietly in refill American oak. In 2011 it moved into first-fill Bourbon hogsheads, and in 2017 into a first-fill Oloroso sherry hogshead, where it stayed for more than five years before bottling. Natural colour, non-chill filtered, and bottled at the strength half a century in wood left it: 42.6%.
What to expect in the glass
The nose is orange and mint, with grilled peach, mango and a dusting of nutmeg. The palate turns richer — melted brown sugar, juicy apricot and orange marmalade, dark plum and cherry, creamy vanilla fudge and a warming edge of cinnamon. The finish runs long: watermelon and kiwi, a grapefruit lift, green tea and lingering wood spice.
