Some whiskies are made quickly. This one waited thirty-one years.
Distilled in 1992 in Loch Lomond’s distinctive Straight Neck stills, this is the oldest peated whisky the distillery has ever released — the second chapter of the Waypoint Series, named after the wild stretch of the West Highland Way that runs from Inversnaid to Inverarnan along the loch’s north-eastern shore. Like that path, it rewards patience: rugged in character, quietly beautiful, and full of things worth discovering.
Three decades in three types of ex-Bourbon American oak casks laid the foundation. Then Master Blender Michael Henry gave it a final twelve months in Tawny Port pipes, folding rich, dark fruit into the whisky’s gentle smoke.
What to expect in the glass
The nose opens on blackberry and honey. The palate brings dark chocolate, raspberry and cedar wood, before a long finish of woodsmoke and dark fruits. Soft smoke rather than a peat storm — this is peated whisky with three decades of polish. Natural colour, non-chill filtered, bottled at 44.1% ABV, exactly as it left the cask.
Recognised before it even reached the shelf
Ahead of its release, it earned Double Gold with 99/100 points at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Gold at the International Spirits Challenge.
A rare bottle, beautifully presented
Fewer than 2,600 bottles exist worldwide. Each comes in a handmade wooden outer box, etched with the Inversnaid-to-Inverarnan route, holding an internal copper tube illustrated by renowned artist Brett Beacon — a fitting home for the rarest peated whisky Loch Lomond has ever bottled.
