Description
Zacapa’s benchmark, and one of the most awarded sipping rums in the world. Built not from conventional molasses but from virgin sugar cane honey, then blended through the Sistema Solera from rums aged between six and twenty-three years, in barrels that previously held American whiskey, delicate sherries and Pedro Ximénez.
Nose A soft, sweet opening — caramel, vanilla, cacao and butterscotch — with sherried notes of roasted nuts, toffee and dried tropical fruit.
Palate Complex and full-bodied: dried fruit and apricot, oak, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger, coffee and vanilla, with leather and tobacco underneath.
Finish Intricate, on honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and dried fruit.
The 23 refers to the oldest rum in the blend rather than a straight age statement. Matured at altitude in the Guatemalan highlands.
