Description
AOC Calvados Pays d’Auge, double distilled for maximum aromatic intensity and aged more than four years in oak. The house sums up its character in two words: fruity and spiced, closing on a refined sweetness on the palate.
Pays d’Auge is the stricter of the two Calvados appellations. It requires cider pressed from Normandy apples — largely bitter and bittersweet varieties — double distillation in a Charentais-type pot still, and a minimum of two years in oak. This VSOP sits at the entry to the Sausseux range, below the XO and the 12 Ans.
Sausseux is the Calvados label of Distillerie des Moisans, a family house at Sireuil in the Charente, founded in the 1960s by Roland Bru and still run by his descendants.
