Description
Distilled from white wine grown inside the Armagnac appellation, in a traditional alambic armagnacais, on fine lees, and selected by the cellar master. Aged in French oak — VS is the entry grade, requiring a minimum of two years in wood.
Armagnac is the older of France’s two great brandies, made from Colombard, Baco Blanc, Folle Blanche and Ugni Blanc in Gascony, between the Adour and the Garonne. Where cognac is double distilled, armagnac traditionally goes through a single continuous still, which leaves more grape character and more texture in the glass. At VS level that shows as a young, floral, lightly oaked style — the approachable way into the category, and the one that stands up best in a long drink.
Duc Moisans is the armagnac label of Distillerie des Moisans, the family house at Sireuil in the Charente, which also bottles a long run of single vintages.
