Description
Devaux works from the Côte des Bar, the Pinot Noir heartland at the southern end of Champagne, on Kimmeridgian marl and Portlandian limestone. Grande Réserve is the cornerstone of the house’s Classiques range and is built predominantly on that Pinot Noir, with Chardonnay in support.
Style Base wines fermented in stainless steel with malolactic completed, around 20% reserve wines — half of them aged in French oak vats — and roughly 36 months on the lees, well beyond the legal minimum. Dosage 9 g/l.
Nose Golden yellow, floral, with ripe fruit, white peach, apricot and mirabelle plum.
Palate Finesse and presence together, growing more complex in the glass, with a moreish mirabelle finish.
Founded in 1846 by the brothers Jules and Auguste Devaux, and based since the 1980s at the Domaine de Villeneuve in Bar-sur-Seine. Chef de cave Michel Parisot was named Sparkling Winemaker of the Year at the 2020 International Wine Challenge.
