Description
Black Label turned up. A higher proportion of smoky West Coast and Islay whiskies, and greater use of deeply charred old oak, push the smoke and spice well past the original.
Nose Fairly light but oily, with dry oak, honey and a gently stony smoke.
Palate Fuller than the nose suggests, moving from sweet smoke and floral honey to cracked stone, tar and old bonfires, with raisins, sultanas, apple and citrus held in check by vanilla and spice.
Finish Medium, with soft smoke, woody spice and charred oak.
Launched as a travel-retail exclusive and given general release in 2011, Double Black has become the Johnnie Walker of choice for drinkers who want peat and char without moving to an Islay single malt.
