A single-vintage armagnac from 1974, aged individually in oak and presented in a wooden box.
The vintage is an armagnac speciality. As the house puts it, the quality of each year is bound up with the weather of that year, and these separate eaux-de-vie call for individual, tailored ageing rather than a house blend. A 1974 bottled today has spent something in the order of four and a half decades in wood.
Armagnac is made from Colombard, Baco Blanc, Folle Blanche and Ugni Blanc, distilled in the traditional alambic armagnacais between the Adour and the Garonne in Gascony. Unlike cognac, single-vintage bottling here is standard practice rather than an exception — which makes a 1974 a straightforward choice as a birth-year or anniversary bottle.
Duc Moisans is the armagnac label of Distillerie des Moisans, the family house at Sireuil in the Charente.
